Renewable energy for the swimming pool and gym are part of the project

In the Municipality of Smolyan, an opening press conference was held under project BGENVIRONMENT-4.003-0013 "Partnership for adaptation to climate change", under the program "Protection of the environment and climate change, financed by the FM of the EEA 2014 - 2021".
The project manager and deputy mayor of Smolyan, Marin Zahariev, the project team and Eftima Petkova, director of the Directorate "Strategic Planning, Innovations, Projects and Tourism" took part in it.
The project is financed by the Financial Mechanism of the European Economic Area (EEF) 2014-2021, under the "Environmental Protection and Climate Change" Program. The grant agreement was signed on 23.11.2021.
The project is implemented in a broad partnership, including 4 municipalities from Bulgaria - Municipality of Smolyan, Municipality of Asenovgrad, Municipality of Svilengrad and Municipality of Krushari, "Pleiades Bulgaria" OOD - a company developing activities in the field of sustainable development and a partner from Norway - the University of Science and Technology in Trondheim. The program operator of the program is the Ministry of Environment and Water.
The project envisages targeted activities to increase the capacity of local authorities to develop and implement programs for adaptation to climate change, to introduce specific measures leading to a direct reduction of greenhouse gas emissions as a direct link to the EU objectives for climate-adapted cities and communities .
Specific measures include:
An installation for the production of electricity from renewable sources (RE), located on the roof of the Sports Hall building in the town of Smolyan;
Combined installation for the production of electricity and heat from renewable energy, located on the roof of the Swimming Pool building in the town of Smolyan;
An installation for the production of electricity from renewable energy, located on parking structures and providing energy for the needs of the Sports Hall in the town of Svilengrad, incl. and for an EV charging station for four cars;
Installation for the production of electricity from renewable energy, located on the roof of the MBAL building in the town of Asenovgrad;
An installation for the production of electricity from renewable energy, located on the roof of the building of the City Library "Paisiy Hilendarski" in the town of Asenovgrad;
An installation for the production of electricity from renewable energy, located on the roof of the building of the Municipality of Krushari in the village of Krushari.
At the same time, activities will be carried out to introduce pilot energy monitoring of energy consumption and production in the buildings that are the object of intervention under the project, and the knowledge and results obtained will be implemented in new or updated active programs to promote the use of renewable energy sources (RES) of the partner municipalities.
The project is also aimed at the needs of municipalities for training and increasing the capacity of employees regarding the implementation of measures for the production of electricity and thermal energy from renewable sources. Energy efficiency surveys (initial and follow-up) will be carried out on buildings of the partner municipalities to be used for future interventions to implement energy saving measures. The activities of preparing programs to promote the use of renewable energy of the partner municipalities and the performance of energy surveys will be carried out by the partner - "Pleiades Bulgaria" OOD.
All activities will be carried out in an exchange of experience with the Norwegian partner, who will contribute to the implementation of the activities by applying good examples and innovations in the implementation of long-term and short-term energy efficiency programs and to promote the use of RES and biofuels. Mandatory management, publicity and financial audit activities are also set.
Total value of the project: BGN 940,266.60, of which: BFP amount: BGN 925,178.17: financing from the FM of the EEA: BGN 786,401.41 and national funding: BGN 138,776.76, co-financing : BGN 15,088.43
